I had some creative time today. The lure of the cheap stoneware clay and the old dummy head.. you know how it is.

I’m really happy with it. It’s a believable shape for an anthro critter’s head. That is; realistically proportioned, non-toony.

I used a feline reference, but it came out more canid. Covered it in some leftover silicone so I can get a rigid casting before the clay dries out and shrinks off the dummy.

So two fursuiters at a charity event in New Jersey apparently decided to get it on explicitly on the hood of a car outside in broad daylight. Local council saw it, kids saw it, photos were taken.

In addition to the usual embarrassment & mud-flinging, the ~$600 fundraising for new medical equipment is likely going to cost over a quarter of a million dollars in lost equipment, fines and penalising budget-cuts, as well as possibly the jobs of 5 people who were hosting & organising.

Knock-on effects are likely to include not only the prosecution of the two douchebags (we can hope), but complete destruction of community events in that area and the community becoming an overnight anathema to the close-knit Fire and Emergency Medical Service community.

[Redacted due to threat of libel]

Okay this is all in the USA, so I’d hope it can be avoided in the UK, but frankly we’ve already had more than enough similar events the community’s dodged the bullet on previously. That sinking feeling you get when these things occur? Remember when you were little and broke a plate or a window or something? It’s the feeling of not knowing if this is the time you’re going to get the full wrath of god down on you for your actions. You can’t dodge bullets forever. This is why you should do things to fix shit rather than ignore or hide it. Deciding to contront a fear is the only control we ever have over it.

If I had one of those “furry pride” stickers or T-shirts, this is the point I’d be burning it. Reading this sort of thing makes you feel like a bunch of people have decided to dunk you bodily in a septic-tank. It feels like it’s cloying to every bit of you. Especially when you remember there is no way there won’t be some clutch of the group who close-ranks over it, either for self-protective interests or because they find a way to justify the actions of the people involved.

As usual, images all link to full-size versions on my server. I’m also adding links to galleries they may be uploaded to too, in case anyone feels like faving/commenting there.

Let’s start with the basic one. This was going to be an xmas card but got done too late, is of poor quality due to being forced, and my printer’s packed up, so..

It may be the last xmas pic I do. I’m kinda done with xmas as a celebration now. Still if you celebrate it, hope it was a good one.

Some of the following may be mildly NSFW if you’re reading peoples journals while you’re supposed to be working, so I’ve put them behind a cut (hopefully).

Does anyone else read the often rather porny “Peter is the Wolf” werewolf webcomic?

Does anyone else want to slap the character Sarah up the side of the head?

Does anyone else want to see her try and explain the predicament to someone and simply have them answer “So wait.. you dumped your boyfriend because he was raped? What the hell kind of person are you!?”

Okay she’s a newbie werewolf and having a lot of shit thrown at her so is rightfully expected to be a bit emotional, but she dumps her boyfriend while he’s still sobbing and tied to the bed of a derelict motel room, because “she can’t handle it”. And now the story is that the rape victim is having go along with some elaborate plan to trick or win back the girlfriend?

Okay he sorta has good reason to because of the plot device that a newbie werewolf has to be trained, not reveal themselves and so on or they’ll be killed by the rest of the pack to keep the secret.. but the whole thing leaves an awful taste in my mouth.

Maybe there’s some level of truest love I’ve never obtained or something, but if the person I was with broke up with me and left after interrupting me being raped..? I’d be awful grateful for it being interrupted, sure, but blaming me for being raped?? It being such a burden on them that they can’t take it? Sure, thanks for the concern, glad you just witnessing it rather than having it actually done to you is the bigger stress factor here!

I’m sure I’d be upset by both events at the time, but once the shock passed I don’t think I’d want to be anywhere near the selfish toad ever again.

And now leading into more sexual shenanigans in order to win/trick her back into being with him? Not only is the victim being forced into apologising and apparently accepting the blame for being a victim, he’s got to use more sex, more probable trauma to himself, to do it.

Because in fiction, more sex makes everything better. Even for rape victims.

But I’m sure they’ll be lots of fuzzy titties for everyone.

Is my expectation of a reasonable reaction that far out of whack? What would you do if you found your partner bound naked, sobbing with a sexual predatory on top of them?

I don’t think my reaction would be to dump them on the spot and leave. I would hope the reasonable reaction would be after the predator had legged it, to untie my partner and fucking comfort them.

Or maybe Sarah is really that much of a shallow ditz. Maybe that’s where I’m disconnecting from the story; assuming there’s something deeper about her that would actually make her attractive as a person. Mutual depression does not make a relationship!

Or maybe it is accurate. Teenagers are supposed to be emotionally immature, it’s kinda the definition of them.

This does not meet my expectations for emotional depth in storytelling, nor reasonable behaviour for the otherwise fairly “normal” characters. This is not what the everyman character should be accepting.

Grr.

It’s been a pretty dire year, and I’ve let most of you know I can’t afford to send cards at the moment. It also hit me tonight I don’t have everyone’s emails any-more and sending directly to just a few didn’t seem right! So here’s my Christmas card-picture to you all.

An especial thank-you goes to those of you who’ve helped me out in these past few months, and to everyone I hope the year ahead is better than the one passed. Onward and upward and all that. :)

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all. X

Uploaded a couple of naughty/cheeky sketches to FA.

Carefully placed sushii-roll
Wonderful sex-face sketch

The latter one will likely be added to in time.

Good to have the creative.. err.. juices flowing in other areas again too.

One of things I’ve been taking on this week is sifting and transcribing the huge pile of old notes I have kicking about. A foot-tall pile of scraps and scrawled-on envelopes.
Most of them are going to be compiled into more succinct lists of ideas, information and so forth. Then the original mess can be tidily burnt, and I can process anything useful out of the notes.

I’ve just finished transcribing this gem though which will be avoiding the burn pile for the time being. It’s a handy reminder of how far I’ve come, even if it does make excruciating reading.

The bit that bugs me the most is that as I started transcribing it I figured it was something I’d written early in high-school, maybe around 13-14 years of age. But no, I hit the point where it talks about being 17 in past-tense. I was 18 years old and wrote like this? How was I never tested for dyslexia?
Maybe that’s for the best anyway considering how I wore my existing faults as a badge of pride then.

Anyway here it is, original spelling and obsession with commas preserved.

De-potted pure-red claws, sanded and drilled. Posted the small set, long set ready for collection at next LF meet.
Shore 80 castings came out nicely. Not all fully attached to velcro however. Not surprising since it’s stiffer. It’s not flexing enough to make full contact. Think I’ll cast the Shore 80′s separate, then mix a small amount more and use it to “glue” the pads to the velcro. Will take longer, but will be more reliable. Should also let me use the velcro more efficiently.

Doodled some in SAI. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3685774/
Also progressed some other works a bit further.

Bedding down now. Edging sleep back toward normal.

Will see if I can rig my business site to incorporate this journal as a separate blog-line from the one on the front page.

..or “I’ll put it back on a Mature filter if someone complains”.

I’ve finally completed a bit of gift-art I started last year. Feels good to have it done at last. Hoping for some critique.

It’s only cheeky/suggestive, but the early comments of “is that robot doing her up the bum?” prompted me to list all the WIP stages as Mature. Now it’s done though, will wait and see what comments I get.

It’s furry art, and being listed as General will be visible to non-FA members.

The gothic lolita idea turned into a sort of maids outfit, but looks good anyway. Will probably spot corrections to make to the extreme lighting effect over the next few days.
Still happy about the extra time I took to research and locate authentic 60s-era fonts for the signage, the wear on the turnstile and the camera and marker-pen layers. I hope they give it more depth.

Next: Completing that character sheet, Kei’s sketch trade, and finishing playing-card inks.

If I finish in the workshop at 9, and I grab a bite to eat then draw, I finish around 1:30am. So need to shut down in the workshop around 7:30.

Oh yes, they’ll be workshop news tomorrow I dare say.
